PERSIB's path in Asia got blocked in the round of 16 after a defeat against Kitchee of Hong Kong, ending club's undefeated record since the group stage. Despite some clear chances, PERSIB failed to make it counted and had to suffer 0-2 defeat in the one-off game held at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium last Wednesday (27/5).
PERSIB managed to control the game in second half and dominate the possession to seek for equalizer. Trio Ridwan, Konate and Tantan showed some dangerous threats up front, but the keeper Wang Zhenpeng remained steady to help the visitor seal the win. Tantan revealed that the West Java side was desperate to find an opening goal, but remained unlucky until the match ended.
"We didn't have the luck to score, we had actually shown our best to change the game, but we're left stranded by the two goals down. We're saddened by the defeat, especially since AFC Cup was the only competition we're following.
"We controlled second half and created some opportunities. But We failed to make it," Tantan reasoned.
The Lembang-born forward, however, conveyed his gratitude to all parts of the club who have been supporting the team during its campaign in Asia. He also apologized for the failure to progress farther.
"I'd like to apologize to Bobotoh for our failure to go beyond last 16, but we've tried. I hope we could take lessons from this," he closed.
